Online event | Voices of Power: Whistleblowing for the Public Good
On World Whistleblower Day, 23 June, the European Whistleblowing Institute is organizing the online event “Voices of Power: Whistleblowing for the Public Good”, from 16.00-17.00 CEST. Click on the box below to register.
In this event, we will discuss the role of civil society in protecting whistleblowers. The EU Directive 2019/1937 (commonly known as the Whistleblower Directive) on the protection of persons who report on breaches of Union Law fails to adequately address and protect NGOs committed to whistleblowers’ protection. Their role was fundamental for the proposal for a Directive and even before that. NGOs in Europe and internationally are guiding whistleblowers by providing information, assistance, and advocacy. This event aims to bring together representatives of NGOs and lawyers who will analyze their work, challenges, and potential solutions.
You will hear from:
Radu Nicolae, President of the Association for Cooperation and Sustainable Development. He is an international expert in anti-corruption and asset recovery who has actively supported whistleblowers in Romania and acts as the country editor for the Whistleblowing Monitor.
Marianna Leontiev, PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Law of Trnava University, Lay Judge at Slovakia’s Supreme Administrative Court, and EWI Fellow.
Isabel Ortiz Monasterio, lawyer at Ritch Mueller who devotes a significant portion of her time to pro bono work, particularly in support of access to justice and vulnerable communities.
